The Prior General at Corpus Christi: ‘It is this sacrament that makes us divine’

Father Alejandro shares with the Order a brief message on this much loved and celebrated Solemnity

Our father St Augustine, when speaking of the Eucharist, placed a firm emphasis on communion and reconciliation with God, who forgives us our sins through the cross. Christ is priest, victim and altar at the same time.

Later, St Thomas Aquinas would repeat that ‘by becoming man he made us gods’. Jesus, says St Thomas, gave himself to God the Father, offering his body on the altar of the cross as a victim of reconciliation.

It is this sacrament, as a participation in the Body of Christ, that makes us divine and generates the greatest communion among the baptised.
