The Commission for Apostolate and Evangelization of the Augustinian General Curia, in collaboration with the Unicervantes University of Bogotá, is launching an international online diploma course on Augustinian pedagogy

Under the theme “Educating from the Heart: Augustinian Wisdom for the Challenges of the 21st Century”, this distance learning course will consist of 16 sessions, each lasting an hour and a half, once a week. The course will offer specialized training to integrate the thought of Saint Augustine with current educational challenges.

“This course is especially aimed at teachers and administrators of our educational centers, although it is also open to anyone interested in learning about the principles of a pedagogy truly inspired by the writings of Our Father Saint Augustine,” explained Father Javier Pérez Barba, Assistant General for Southern Europe and coordinator of the Commission for Apostolate and Evangelization.

About the Course

The course is structured into four modules with various themes addressing basic Augustinian elements such as the inner teacher, the pedagogy of conversion, the importance of community in the formative process, the influence of Saint Augustine in Catholic tradition, Augustinian principles for contemporary education, and key strategies for educating in the 21st century.

“The first two modules will be offered in April and May, and the final two in October and November. We wanted to leave a few months between the modules to facilitate content assimilation and to balance the workload,” said Father Javier.

The diploma, featuring a rich and profound variety of content, will be delivered online by highly qualified professors who are well-versed in the figure of Saint Augustine. Participants will have access through Unicervantes’ distance learning platform in both synchronous and asynchronous formats, as classes will be recorded and hosted on the platform. This allows participants to access the sessions regardless of their time zone or personal availability.

The course language will be Spanish, although the Commission for Apostolate and Evangelization has assured that an English version is being planned for the future.

The diploma offers a varied, rich, and profound content, taught by highly qualified professors with in-depth knowledge of Saint Augustine.
